4-1 Victory over Duisburg!

31.033 spectators came to the Betzenberg to see the Red Devil chalk up a 4-1 victory over MSV Duisburg in an enthralling clash on Friday evening, September 11, 2009. In this season’s first match under floodlights at the Fritz Walter Stadium, FCK opened the scoring with 27 minutes on the clock. Amedick, Sam, Nemec and Jendrisek scored for the Red Devils. The guests scored a consolation goal in the 84th minute.

In the fifth match of the season, FCK head coach Marco Kurz put his trust in the successful and yet unbeaten starting eleven again. He solely made one change to the squad. After a long absence due to injury, Mathias Abel took his place on the bench instead of Dario Damjanovic.

The guests from Duisburg demonstrated their goalscoring instinct already at the beginning of the match. However, neither Caiuby nor Tararache were able to net (5/6).

But it was by no means one-way traffic as the Red Devils attacked the opponent’s goal as well. A header by team captain Martin Amedick only missed the target by the fraction of an inch (

. The hosts pressured for the first goal, and two long shots by Florian Dick gave notice of what was to come (9/11). The Red Devils were in control of the match and Duisburg’s defense had a lot of work to do. The 31.033 spectators saw an enthralling match between two highly committed teams with yellow cards for both sides.

With 27 minutes on the clock, FCK took the lead from a Bugera free kick from the right side that was caught by Martin Amedick. The team captain slotted home with his left foot to open the scoring at a great Friday evening.

A strong FCK defense prevented the opponent from getting going and also had control over the dangerous MSV striker and Germany international Sandro Wagner. Not before the 43rd minute, MSV Duisburg managed to really attack the goal. Tobi Sippel finally had work to do as Tiffert cannoned a shot on goal. The strong FCK shot-stopper, however, demonstrated a brilliant reaction and saved the ball (43).

The Red Devils’ excellent and passionate performance continued in the second half. With 49 minutes on the clock, Erik Jendrisek could have easily doubled the lead but failed to overcome MSV goalkeeper Starke. Just one minute later, Sidney Sam capitalized on brilliant work by his team-mates Rodnei and Ilicevic. The Germany U-21 national player scored the 2-0 in the 50th minute.

Afterwards, the Red Devils really got going and demonstrated excellent give-and-go soccer and were awarded after 57 minutes. This time it was Erik Jendrisek who netted after Rodnei had released the Slovak into space. Jendrisek’s fellow countryman Adam Nemec followed suit and made it four. After 67 minutes, FCK was in the lead 4-0 and the fans were celebrating a great soccer evening at the Betzenberg.

The Red Devils did not stop to attack the opponent’s goal afterwards. They made several additional chances but were not able to add another strike. In the 84th minute, it was Sandro Wagner who scored the consolation goal for the other side.

After 91 minutes of great soccer, the Red Devils celebrated their brilliant 4-1 victory over the guests from Duisburg. The spectators saw an enthralling clash at the Betzenberg on a great Friday evening. Marco Kurz’s side remains unbeaten and is at the top of the table – at least through Sunday.
