Red Devils Chalk up Home Win against Oberhausen

Chalking up a 3-1 home win against Rot-Weiß Oberhausen, the Red Devils stay on the road to success. The 26,546 crowd at Fritz Walter Stadium saw goals by Adam Nemec, Martin Amedick and Rodnei.

On matchday 12, November 6, 2009, 1. FC Kaiserslautern welcomed Rot-Weiß Oberhausen at the Betzenberg. FCK head coach Marco Kurz made two changes to the team that won in Munich last weekend. Instead of Daniel Pavlovic, Dragan Paljic replaced Ivo Ilicevic, who still is not match fit. Moreover, Jiri Bilek came in for Bastian Schulz and celebrated his debut as part of the starting line-up today.

Seizing the game by the scruff of the neck, the home side dropped heavy hints as to why they were lying second in the standings prior to kick-off. The Red Devils tackled lustily, bristling with menace on the break and created their first scoring opportunity with no more than three minutes on the clock as Georges Mandjeck sent a thundering long shot towards the opponent’s goal. RWO shot-stopper Pirson’s save resulted in a corner kick for the hosts, handing Sidney Sam the next scoring chance. However, with already warmed gloves, Pirson saved (3). It turned out to be a good start for the Red Devils. With the home side clearly dominating the game, RWO was left without a chance to create promising moves. The guests had their first chance on ten minutes, but Stoppelkamp’s attempt flew wide. At the other end, Madjeck started an attack which Pirson was able to parry. However, Adam Nemec was there, and his second attempt marked the lead for the hosts (15). With the lead under their belts, the home side pressed for another goal. Particularly, Alexander Bugera’s set plays endangered the opponent’s goal once and again. After 21 minutes, a Rodnei header missed the target by the fraction of an inch. Only ten minutes later, a shot on the turn by Erik Jendrisek flew right into the arms of Pirson.

FCK - SC Rot-Weiß Oberhausen

Being busy with preventing the home side from creating one chance after the other, the guests had no time or opportunity to attack Sippel’s goal at all. First and foremost, the much-traveled and agile Sidney Sam was a real danger, and the young Germany under-21 player set up a heavy load of assists enabling the Slovak forward duo to score. A few minutes prior to the half-time whistle, the hosts even made it two. In consequence of another Bugera corner kick, Adam Nemec, lurking at the far post, handed a golden opportunity to Martin Amedick who did not hesitate to head home (44). In consequence of the third goal of FCK’s team captain, Kurz’s men went to the changing room with a 2-0 lead.

Even the interval did not change anything: the Red Devils did not calm down at all. On the contrary, three minutes after the re-start of the match, Adam Nemec gave his opponents the runaround, but one of the guests was able to stop the tall forward from striking the third goal. The Red Devils did not slow down after all. Sidney Sam left his opponents behind and could only be stopped by a harsh foul. Another corner kick by Alex Bugera on 62 minutes resulted in the third goal for the home side. FCK defender Rodnei caught his cross-field ball, and he just buried it in the net. Three minutes later, Jendrisek dropped another shot on goal. The Red Devils created chances in one-minute intervals now.

After 74 minutes, the visitors scored a consolation goal, with the former FCK player Ronny König heading home in consequence of a corner kick. Nevertheless, the victory never was at stake. With a well-earned victory, the Red Devils have secured the second spot in the standing tonight.
