Red Devils Remain Unbeaten

Also in the eighth match of the campaign, the Red Devils keep their record clean. Since the match against FSV Frankfurt ended in a 1-1 draw, the team of head coach Marco Kurz remains unbeaten. FCK forward Erik Jendrisek scored the equalizer seconds ahead of the half-time interval after the hosts had surprised the Red Devils with an early goal on 23 seconds.

The 5,000 FCK fans at the Volksbank Stadium in Frankfurt backed their team with great support and created a home-match like atmosphere for the Red Devils at the Bornheimer Hang when the front-runners met bottom of the table FSV Frankfurt in an away game on October 4, 2009.

Marco Kurz did not make any changes to the successful team and put his trust in the still unbeaten eleven. Seconds after referee Hartmann had whistled play underway, the hosts shocked their visitors. With only 23 seconds on the clock, Kujabi caught the FCK defense unawares and netted. FSV took the lead with the match hardly underway.

However, FCK responded with several promising attacks and numerous possibilities to equalize during the first quarter. In addition to that, there were four controversial situations within FSV’s goal area, but referee Hartmann did not blow the whistle once. FSV Frankfurt, on the other hand, did not appear in front of the FCK goal. At that time, it was one-way traffic with the visitors dominating the happenings on the field of play.

FSV Frankfurt - FCK

After 29 minutes, FCK shot-stopper Tobi Sippel’s kick-out found Erik Jendrisek who appeared in front of FSV goalkeeper Klandt with no FSV defender to be seen anywhere. However, Klandt showed a stunning reaction save preventing the FCK forward from equalizing. The visitors made chances at minute intervals, but Jendrisek, Nemec & Co were lacking the crucial luck. The hosts, however, slowly but surely enhanced their presence and strength and showed dangerous counter-attacks now. Nevertheless, FCK was still dominating the match. Seconds ahead of the half-time interval, the Red Devils were finally rewarded. Sending a cross towards the far post, Bugera handed Jendrisek a chance on a silver plate and the Slovakian national team player headed the ball into the net (45).

The sides turned round with the sores level, and the visitors pressed for another goal. However, FSV Frankfurt did not give in to the front-runners and the match gained pace. The 9,664 onlookers at the Volkswagen Stadium saw chances at both ends at regular intervals. Nemec failed to hit the target after a Bugera free-kick (61) before FCK team captain Amedick performed a last-minute save, deflecting a shot by Cidimar (69). Marco Kurz brought Damjanovic in place of Schulz and Paljic emerged in place of the luckless Nemec. Even if both teams made any effort to score the decisive goal, the action died down during the last quarter. None of the opponents managed to create dangerous scoring chances before the referee blew the final whistle.

After 90 hotly contested minutes, the Red Devils travel back to Kaiserslautern with one point and a clear record. 1. FC Kaiserslautern remains unbeaten and stays at the top of the table – at least until tomorrow.
