Away Win in Ahlen

In their first away match on the second match day, the Red Devils had to face Rot-Weiss Ahlen in the Werse Stadium in the peaceful and small town of Ahlen. Following the successful season kick-off against Fuerth on the Betzenberg, the team of head coach Marco Kurz had traveled to Ahlen to gain further points away from home.

About 1,200 FCK fans had joined their team on the journey to Westphalia to support the Red Devils away from home. Marco Kurz put his trust in last week’s successful line-up. Wearing the black kits, the Red Devils opened at a furious pace and started to attack the opponent’s goal right from the beginning. Unfortunately, neither a fine chip by Sidney Sam (5) nor a straight shot by Erik Jendrisek (6) hit the target. With eight minutes on the clock, however, the Ahlen side had the most dangerous scoring opportunity until then, but Reichwein’s header only hit the crossbar.

Afterwards, the Red Devils had their clear sights at goal. First, Erik Jendrisek brought a sharp save from Ahlen keeper Sascha Kirschstein (10), and even if Kirschstein had managed to parry Jendrisek’s shot successfully, he failed to avoid Rodnei’s goal that gave the Red Devils the lead after 12 minutes. After Sam had intelligently squared from the left side, Rodnei slotted home from seven yards. A few minutes later, FCK had the chance to extend the lead but Sascha Kirschstein managed to parry Amedick’s well-aimed header. It was all FCK after that – on the field of play as well as on the stands.

Not until the 24th minute, the hosts appeared in front of Tobias Sippel’s goal with Kumbela firing the ball into the side-netting. Now, Ahlen announced its arrival as an attacking force on the 34th minute when Lartey hit the crossbar and Tobias Sippel showed a brilliant save. However, FCK went to the changing room with a well-earned one-goal lead.

After the interval, the hosts exerted more pressure and forced the FCK defense and Tobias Sippel to show numerous risky saves. Sub Thomas Bröker failed to overcome Sippel and his men three times. The Red Devils, on the other hand, performed several dangerous counter-attacks. A thundering shot by Adam Nemec only missed the target by centimeters (58 ). The Ahlen side pressed for the equalizer, and after 63 minutes they almost succeeded, but the header by Nils-Ole Book bounced back from the crossbar. In consequence of a professional foul against Adam Nemec, Lartey was sent-off (79). Dragan Paljic replaced Erik Jendrisek for the closing stages and FCK had some promising chances to add the second goal. Both Sidney Sam, who hit the post in the 89th minute, and Dragan Paljic failed to make use of their scoring opportunities. Minutes from time, the Red Devils were close to their second goal, but they also had to weather some dangerous scenes in front of their own goal. However, the defense and Sippel were able to keep the slate clean. The Red Devils will return to Kaiserslautern with their second win in the second game of the new league campaign.
